MISSION STATEMENT

With over fifty years of combined experience in rescuing Chinese Crested dogs, Crested Guardians is a group of dedicated volunteers living across the United States who work together to preserve and protect Chinese Cresteds in need.   It is our mission to make a positive change in the lives of unwanted or abandoned Chinese Crested dogs through transporting, fostering, nurturing, socializing, providing medical care and professional, positive-reinforcement-based training.   The ultimate goal of Cresteds Guardians is to place each rescued Crested into a loving forever home.

The members of Crested Guardians work closely with shelters, animal control officers and families needing to give up their Chinese Crested dog. We provide needed medical care, transportation, foster homes, and training for each dog that comes into our care. Our group works together as a team in a variety of ways and we often travel great distances in order
to save one dog.

These two dogs were homeless, but Crested Guardians took them in and nurtured them to good health and provided them each with training. They were adopted out together into a caring and loving home. This is what all of us at Crested Guardians wants for our homeless Chinese Crested rescues....love and comfort and...a family to call their own. Please help us to help them and check out our FAQs page to learn about different ways you can do so!

I was very sick with heartworm disease and I was going to die without treatment.
Crested Guardians took me in and got me the medical lifesaving treatment I needed.

I have been adopted into a caring and loving home.

THANK YOU Crested Guardian Sue!!!

Special Thanks to you all of you who generously donated to help pay for my expensive treatment.

THE CHINESE CRESTED DOG BREED DESCRIPTION

The Hairless and Powder Puff Varieties

There are two varieties of Chinese Crested dog - the Hairless and the Powder Puff. The hairless is generally known for it's "naked" appearance with varying amounts of hair on its head (crest), paws (socks) and tail (plume). There can be tremendous variation in the amount of hair on a hairless dog. Some hairless dogs may have very little hair at all and are considered to be a "true hairless," whereas others may have much more hair, and can be referred to as a "hairy hairless." The skin of a hairless Chinese Crested can range anywhere from being black, light brown, flesh-colored or spotted, and can be as smooth as a baby's skin or as bumpy and scarred. As with many other hairless varieties, the hairless crestie may present with incomplete dentition and appear to have "baby teeth" and/or many missing teeth.

The Chinese Crested Powder Puff, unlike the hairless, has a thick, soft coat. The coat can be long and soft or clipped short. Often, the Powder Puff is kept in a "pony cut" whereby the hair around the snout and neck are clipped short, but the rest of the coat is long. Below are some examples of the hairless and powder puff Chinese Crested dog:
